Static Wall
2004

The 45 second video, originally made for a collection of short films specifically for cell phone screens, uses the recorded image of static on a TV monitor as the only light source and frame to reveal the folding surfaces of a small room in Z house. It was inspired by films of cave explorations and by childhood memories of waking late at night in a room lit only by the crackling static on the TV set after the channel had ‘gone off the air’. With 24 hour broadcasting over hundreds of channels, this glowing emblem of lost signals and broken communications is itself lost to us today. How long have I been asleep?
